Cavendish Farms Donates to Food Banks Amid the Covid-19 Outbreak

Cavendish Farms frozen potato products were donated to food banks in Canada and the United States as part of a bigger initiative by the J.D. Irving Group of Companies during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. So far over 50,000 packs of frozen potato products, including Cavendish Farms French fries, have been donated in seven provinces and states.

 “During these unprecedented times, we are fortunate to be able to leverage our ability to deliver Irving Tissue household tissue products, Irving Personal Care diapers and Cavendish Farms frozen potato products to food banks at a time when they are experiencing very high demand,” said Robert K. Irving, Co-CEO of J.D. Irving and President of Cavendish Farms.

Twelve organizations received donations from Cavendish Farms to help feed their clients. Cavendish Farms employees helped deliver the donations in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, Ontario, Alberta and New York. There is a remaining donation to be delivered in Jamestown, North Dakota in the coming weeks.

“This initiative began in Moncton, New Brunswick at the Food Depot Alimentaire and developed from there,” said Wayne McDonald, Vice President of Corporate Relations at J.D. Irving, Limited. “As a company that manufactures essential products, we wanted to give back to our communities during these difficult times and to support the agencies we have assisted in the past.”

On March 31, J.D. Irving Limited donated $1 million to the Food Depot Alimentaire. The donation was to help offset the growing demand on New Brunswick’s network of 60 food banks across the province due to the financial hardships caused by the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

New Brunswick is our home and we want to do our part to help those in need during these challenging times. The staff and volunteers at our local food banks are true heroes on the frontline and deserve all the support we can give them to keep those in need fed,” said Mr. Robert Irving. “It’s important that as a community, we take care of our neighbours who are impacted. J.D. Irving and our employees are proud to be able to give back to the communities where we live and work. These are unprecedented times for us all.”
