Cavendish Farms Announces Expansion and Construction of New Potato Processing Plant in Lethbridge, Alberta

Cavendish Farms is pleased to announce the expansion of its business in Lethbridge, Alberta, with the construction of a new frozen potato processing plant. Today's approval by Lethbridge City Council for the purchase of land in the Sherring Industrial Park is the first step towards the construction of a $350 million facility, which will replace its current, aging plant.

Cavendish Farms Expands to Western Canada

Cavendish Farms announced in December 2012 it had concluded an agreement to buy the assets of Maple Leaf Potatoes, the frozen potato business of Maple Leaf Foods Inc., including a 142,000 sq. ft. processing facility in Lethbridge, Alberta.

Mr. Robert Irving, co-CEO of Cavendish Farms accepted the “2012 Food Supplier of the Year for Burger King North America” award at the Burger King North America annual franchisee convention in Miami, Florida on November 6, 2012. “It is a major accomplishment for our company and it could not have happened without the dedicated efforts of each and every one of our employees”, says Mr. Irving. In making the presentation, John Sutton, Senior Director Purchasing – Food & Packaging, Burger King explained why Cavendish Farms was selected for this prestigious award: “The Cavendish team’s flexibility, teamwork, openness, quick turnaround, capability, and consistency were essential to the successful launch of our new improved thicker-cut fries and they are a prime example of how building a strong, cross-functional partnerships can contribute to a great result.”


Cavendish Farms Now Fuelled By Cleaner-Burning Natural Gas
Company Reduces Carbon Emissions by 28%

Cavendish Farms celebrated the official opening of its natural gas receiving station at a ceremony held at the New Annan site. The successful implementation of this leading-edge natural gas system generates thermal energy which fuels the company’s potato processing plants and eliminates the use of 22 million litres of heavy fuel oil annually.
